As a young man growing up in Arkansas, Johnathon Burgess knew for quite some time that he wanted to be a lawyer. And like many of his colleagues, he was more than willing to dabble in a variety of practice areas once he graduated from law school.
It did not take long for him to realize which was the most fulfilling — and helped the most people.
“I did a little family law, bankruptcy, and nursing home litigation, but I was always drawn to estate planning,” Johnathon said. “The whole goal is to put an estate plan in place so the client and their family have nothing to worry about. You work your whole life to build up assets and want them to go to your kids eventually. Once that plan is in place, you can see how happy clients are. I see estate planning as the enjoyable part of practicing law. My goal is to put them in the best situation possible.”
That client-first, solutions-oriented mindset should help Johnathon fit in just fine here at Leigh Hilton, PLLC. He comes to us with almost six years of experience under his belt, having operated a solo practice in his hometown of Batesville, Arkansas, after graduating from the prestigious University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law in 2017. Johnathon is licensed to practice law in Texas and Arkansas.
Johnathon earned his undergraduate degree from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and opted to first get into coaching and teaching at a local school while his wife, Lindsey, worked on her doctorate in physical therapy. Once she graduated four short years later, Johnathon immediately left teaching and jumped feet-first into law school.
In so doing, he became the first person in his family to graduate from law school.
Johnathon said he was intrigued by the family atmosphere at our practice and the insistence on putting our clients first in everything we do. After personally speaking with Leigh, joining our team made absolute sense.
When he is not working, Johnathon loves spending time with his family. He and Lindsey have been together since they were freshmen in high school. They even went to college together. Together, they have three kids (two girls and a boy) between the ages of 6 and 12 and enjoy being active in their church. Johnathon loves gravel biking, weekend camping trips, and visiting state parks. With their kids busy with sports, he also enjoys watching them have fun.
